Drew Bentley, VP and Select Program Commissioner credits Steve Gummer's passion, knowledge, and leadership with being directly related to the many accomplishments of the Boys Program at Cobb F.C. €œWhether it is the top level player playing ODP, the R3PL Champion Team, State Cup Champion Team or our teams that are playing at a level slightly lower level all of our kids are learning to play the game the right way,€ says Bentley, €œThe biggest testimonial to this is that of our 12 non academy teams last fall 8 finished either first or second in their division. Under his tutelage our Academy kids are excelling and more importantly our coaches are getting better and better.€ He continues, €œSteve's curriculum and his enthusiasm are already paying great dividends to our Girls Program. A visit to the Southside of Tramore during Academy practices reinforces the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words.€
Over the course of Gummer€™s tenure the boys program has produced over 50 players who have played within the ODP system, several have played for the Region teams and five have attended US National camps including Victor Duru, Nolan McKeever, Darvin Ebanks, Will Dunaway, and Joe Bendik (Joe is currently on tour in Slovakia with the U18 National team.)
In taking over as sole director of coaching and expanding the Coerver method to both programs, it is Steve€™s aim to mirror the success of the boys program to the girl€™s side; €œI am very excited about the new role and have already started getting to grips with the task ahead€, says Gummer, €œWe have some very gifted players within the girls program and it is my job to make sure they flourish at the top level. With the help of our qualified coaching staff. We want to make our teams compete at the top level as well as having fun and creating a great place for our athletes to enjoy and learn the game of soccer.€
