Notre Dame, Rewards Cobb FC's Bilal Duckett.
Bilal Duckett, D, 6-2, 160 (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh)
Named the Region 4 AAAA Player of the Year ... two-time captain of his squad at McIntosh High School ... named first team all-Fayette County and first team all-Region 4 AAAA his junior year ... his club team is Cobb FC '89 Premier, which won the 2005 Georgia state championship and was the runner-up in 2006 ... the team also was the 2005 Region III Premier League Champions and the '05 Regional quarterfinalists ... they were regional quarterfinalists again in 2006 along with being the Region III Premier League runner-up ... he is a six-year member of the Georgia '89 ODP state team ... they were the 2004 Regional III champions and the 2005 national bronze medalist.
Duckett on choosing Notre Dame: "I chose Notre Dame because, after my visits, I felt like it could become a "home away from home". The rich tradition in religion, academics and athletics is second to none. The entire coaching staff is incredible and I know that I will grow tremendously under their guidance. The program has been improving each year and I look forward to our class building upon those previous successes and accomplishments. We have the talent. We will control how good we can be. I honestly feel like this opportunity is a blessing from God."
Clark on Duckett:. "Bilal is a young lad that I saw two years ago and he's a very good athlete. He's still developing physically and I think the best years for him are very much ahead of him. We see him as somebody that will develop athletically and technically to become an excellent player. He played on one of the best club teams in Georgia and the Region III area, but we feel he's still going to grow."

Cobb FC applies to join the USSF Development Academy Program
Marietta (June 8, 2007) – The U.S. Soccer Federation announced this week the creation of a nationwide Development Academy for U16 and U18 boys with the goal of improving the development environment for elite players. Modeled after the training and focus of the U-17 National Team residency program, the 22 players’ minimum roster will compete against other Developmental Academy teams. In order to concentrate on their development, players in the Academy teams are prohibited from participating in State Cup, ODP, R3PL and most of the current elite tournaments except for three time windows (Christmas, Spring Break, and summer) and High School. The Developmental Academy will focus on increased training time (minimum 3 times a week) and improved quality of matches. Monitoring by the National Team and National Staff coaches of the Academy matches and trainings will insure the uniformity of development methodology. Another goal of the USSF is to provide a better setting for scouting college, professional and U.S. National Team players.
The Development Academy League will start in the fall of 2007. The league will consist of several regions, with each region made up of 15-20 teams. Teams will play 30-38 games during an 8 months season and the winner of each region will play in the Academy Finals at the Home Depot Center.
Cobb FC feels that this program is a step in the right direction in order to improve the development of both professional and college bound soccer players. Therefore, we are submitting an application to join the Development Academy program. Given (1) our success with the current U18, U16, and U15 age groups; (2) the availability of two USSF “A” licensed coaches; (3) our commitment to player development using the Coerver curriculum, (4) and our resent success in placing our elite players at the highest levels (2 National Team, 1 National pool, 4 National Camp, 15 Regional Team, 30 State ODP, and 20 College Division I players) we feel that our club presents a strong case for becoming a USSF Development Academy club.
