Cobb Futbol Club

Select Philosophy

It is Cobb FC’s intention to offer players the opportunity to compete at the highest level possible commensurate with their technical and tactical skills, and with their commitment to the sport.

Training Philosophy:

To augment the technical and tactical skills taught in the Academy program by focusing on:

  1. Team shape and movement, both in offense and defense
  2. Patterns of play and formations
  3. Roles of players through positions and areas of the field.
  4. How to gain a tactical advantage when combining in small groups, as well as a whole team
  5. How the 3 areas of the field (attacking third, defending third, and midfield) link together
  6. How to control games through the tempo of the play, ( When to play fast / when to play slow)
  7. Mental attitude prior to games and practices.

The Tryout Process
Annual try-outs take place in June. Players are assessed on a range of technical and tactical skills and offered places, subject to roster size limitations, on Cobb FC’s Select teams for the GYSA soccer year.

Select Program Training
Select teams typically train twice weekly, though individual players are expected to also take advantage of the club’s program of free extra skills sessions in order to further their development. Team  sessions are made up of a technical  relative  warm up, then   a tactical  topic relating to team shape, and decisions to be  made in games,  all sessions are delivered with progression stages to improve the players from week to week.

Coaching Staff
Cobb FC’s Select program coaches have many years of soccer playing and coaching experience between them.
