Academy Try-outs
Cobb FC’s try-outs are scheduled according to GYSA official guidelines, and take place usually in late May/early June.
The try-out process itself is designed with the following objectives in mind:
- To provide current Cobb FC academy players with the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the program and secure their place for the following year.
- To provide prospective players and their parents with the opportunity to observe and experience a typical Cobb FC academy training session.
- To provide prospective players and their parents with the opportunity to meet the Cobb FC coaching staff and ask questions about Cobb FC’s program.
- To provide Cobb FC with the opportunity to observe players in a variety of technical and tactical situations and assess them for their suitability to the program.
- To provide existing Cobb FC recreational program players with a “no-obligation” opportunity to compare and contrast the Academy program with their current practice and playing experience.
In summary, the try-out process is as much about establishing whether there is a ‘good fit’ between the player and the club as it is about recognizing a player’s technical abilities. Therefore, players of all abilities are encouraged to attend our try-outs without obligation.
Selection Process:
Places on the academy program are offered based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, a player's existing skill level, competitiveness, attitude, and enthusiasm for the sport. Academy players are expected to commit for the entire soccer year (July to June) and attend all mandatory training sessions (two per week during the regular season) and scheduled games. In addition, academy players are encouraged to attend at least one of the club's weekly extra practice sessions (foot skills, speed & agility, goalkeeping) that are offered free of charge.
Important Note:
Parents of players who are not registered in an academy or recreational program at another club may contact the appropriate academy director at any time during the year to enquire about becoming part of Cobb FC's academy program.
Players who are registered with another club's academy or recreational program may join Cobb FC outside of the official try-out dates only once approval from the player's current club is provided and an official GYSA transfer is obtained.
